About Us

In December 1996 a group of Teachers who for many years had been involved in the teaching of Russian Ballet (Legat, Vaganova Method) and other styles of Theatre Dance, felt that there was an opportunity for a new Association, which culminated in the formation of the Association of Russian Ballet and Theatre Arts (ARBTA) in January 1997.

In the period since its foundation a number of Ballet and Theatre Dance Schools throughout England and Wales have joined ARBTA and the first Performance of Dance by Member Schools took place in July 1997. This event has continued together with a Choreographic Competition for pupils and students of Member Schools.

ARBTA as a non-profit making organisation, exists not only for the benefit of their students and pupils, but also to safeguard, protect and promote Russian Classical Ballet together with its standards and traditions as handed down by great teachers, including Legat and Vaganova. The Association offers a comprehensive ballet examination system embracing the Russian method.

Apart from offering ballet examinations up to Advanced Teachers Fellowship and Major Examinations, ARBTA also offers complimentary Theatre Dance activities including award examinations for Jazz Dance, Character Dance and Tap with the future introductions of Drama Awards.

The present Examining Board is made up of qualified and experienced examiners and teachers who all have had a thorough background in the training and traditions of the Russian Method. They have held responsible examining positions in the UK and overseas and have also worked in professional theatre.

The Association is proud to have Mikhail Messerer, Olga Sabadoch and Svetlana Adrykheava as our Patrons.

WE ARE a non-profit making Association, approachable, friendly and helpful.

WE LISTEN to others, especially our teachers and members.

OUR AIMS are to promote Russian Classical Ballet, Character Dance, Jazz and Tap.

WE HOLD courses and seminars throughout the year.

NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.
